The leaders emerge

The second round of the U.S. & U.S. Women’s Chess Championship was another intriguing story. The games had everything; blunders, turnovers, as well as an unfortunate premature resignation. The open section saw some balanced games, as well as a couple of important victories by So and Sevian. In the ladies section, the situation was no longer as imbalanced as in the first round, with only two games finishing with decisive results. Let’s take a closer look at the action games in round 2!

2019 U.S. and U.S. Women’s Chess Championships Fields Announced

SAINT LOUIS (March 5, 2019) – The Saint Louis Chess Club will once again host America’s best at the U.S. Chess Championship and U.S. Women’s Chess Championship. The fields are confirmed and fans are sure to see great battles on the chessboard March 18 through April 1, 2019.

Regulations & Format

The 2019 U.S. Championship shall be a 12-player tournament paired as a Round Robin.

  1. Prompt Arrival: Players are expected to arrive promptly for their games.  Players not at their board at the beginning of each round may receive a fine of $500 to be deducted from their prize for each occurrence. Players more than 30 (thirty) minutes late for a round shall forfeit that round. Players who withdraw or forfeit a game may not receive any prize money.
