Levon Aronian is an Armenian-American grandmaster originally from Yerevan. His notable tournament achievements include winning the 2005 & 2017 FIDE World Cup, 2006 & 2007 Chess960 Championship, 2008 World Rapid Championship, and the 2009 World Blitz Championship. Aronian also led Armenia to a number of national team successes, including three gold medal finishes in the 2006, 2008, and 2012 Chess Olympiads, winning an individual gold and silver medal for his performance on board one. In 2021, Aronian officially switched federations to the United States.
