U.S. Clinches First at Pan-Am Team Champs

The U.S. rested its board 1, GM Alex Onischuk, in round 5 but still handily defeated Uruguay.


With a round to spare, the U.S. team managed to clinch victory at the Pan-American Team Championship and ensure itself a berth into the World Team Championship, scheduled to be held in Antalya, Turkey, December 1 of this year. Their 3-1 victory over Uruguay in round 5, combined with Brazil's loss to Cuba, ensured clear first for the Americans.

Although th U.S. team rested their top-rated player, GM Alex Onischuk, the team from Uruguay was clearly outmatched.
