Illya Nyzhnyk is an Ukrainian chess Grandmaster. He first gained international attention when he won group B of the 2007 Moscow Open at age 10. In that same year, he won the U12 section of the European Youth Chess Championship, as well as tying for first in the U12 group of the World Youth Chess Championship, placing second on tie-breaks. Nyzhnyk's recent acheivements include tying for first in 2011 Reykjavik Open and winning the 2019 U.S. Open.
